Books & Case Studies

The book (in German) is intended to guide an expedition into strategic management. As such, it structures the terrain, shows different approaches, critically examines existing knowledge, and raises open questions. The book deliberately operates at the interface between science and business practice. There it aims to convey theoretical ideas on the one hand and practical concepts on the other. We are aware of the difficulties involved. These are illustrated and explored in greater depth using practical examples, excursions, and workshops.

Organizational control tackles the challenge of aligning workers' activities and performance with organizational goals. Shifts in work and organizational dynamics have intensified the tension between individual and collective interests, exposing the limitations of traditional control methods. This book offers a concise overview of multi-disciplinary approaches to control, integrating emerging trends in technology, organizations, and society to redefine control for modern organizations.

This book offers decision-makers a clear guide to navigating business ecosystems. Practical insights cover ecosystem design, roles, strategies, and growth levers as well as orchestration and participation, balancing engagement depth, cooperation vs. competition, trust vs. control, and openness vs. closedness. The book also examines ecosystem performance, failure, and competition, concluding with a look at future evolution, environmental impacts, and management transformation.

Together with co-authors, I have written more than a dozen case studies on organisations (including Aldi, BMW, Klarna, Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi, Tesco, Twitter/X) for use in teaching.
